Sheet masks or facial masks are designed to be applied onto the skin for a certain period of time so that its active ingredients are released, and skin is nurtured by vitamins such as vitamin A, B, C, B2, B3, B7, proteins such as collagen and elastin and; some antioxidants and minerals such as tocopherols, and polyphenols, copper, zinc, and iodine. It is also claimed that some nutraceuticals such as carotenoids, coenzyme Q10, and green tea present in sheet masks improve the appearance of the skin.
It must have the following properties:
- Non-allergic
- Non-comedogenic (the product that do not clog the pores)
- Non-acnegenic (not susceptible to cause acne)
Sheet masks have the advantage of being affordable and easy to apply, but they can cause allergies due to the presence of some allergic substances such as fragrances, parabens, and phthalate esters. If it is applied for a longer time, then the amount of water evaporation from the skin is reduced, making the skin more hydrated and causing certain harmful ingredients to penetrate the skin. It is suggested that these sheet masks should not be used for oily skin or acne-prone skin as they may cause bacterial growth in the skin.

There are different types of sheet masks, one of them is hydrogel masks; it is suggested that these masks boost skin cellular functions and protect wounds from inflammation when used regularly. These masks can be formulated with, collagen, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and essential oils for skin regeneration and improving skin elasticity.
