Causes of Acne: Why Do You Get It & How You Can Prevent It

For those that suffer from acne, you know how hard (and sometimes almost impossible) it may seem to get rid of it, but did you ever stop to think WHY you get it in the first place? There are literally hundreds of different reasons why one might get acne including, but not limited to, genetics, hormones, and an overproduction of sebum (oil). But, there are also other, more sneaky causes of acne, that you may not know about and that you can actually start to fix yourself. Today we’re going to be looking at causes of acne and what you can do to prevent those causes fast.

Causes of Acne

#1. Your Smartphone

This may seem like a pretty obvious one, but your smartphone is in fact loaded with bacteria that can spread onto your skin and cause breakouts.

The fix? Clean that often as often as you can and try to not hold it directly against your skin.

#2. Vitamin D Deficiency

If you have a vitamin D deficiency, your immune system is compromised and therefore weaker. A weak immune system means breakouts.

The fix? Try to spend some time outdoors or take vitamin D supplements.

#3. Probiotics

If you take probiotics it can disrupt the functionality of your intestines, therefore giving away to a weaker immune system and causing breakouts.

The fix? Change the brand of probiotics you’re taking now, wait a month, and if it’s all good, continue!

#4. Shower Water

Your shower water may actually be a big cause of your acne, since it contains lots of different metals. This will disrupt the skin’s pH and cause acne and blemishes.

The fix? Use a shower filter.

#5. Coffee

Bad news for caffeine addicts! Coffee throws the skin’s pH off, resulting in blackheads, whiteheads, and, of course, acne.

The fix? Switch to tea and water.

#6. Lack of Sleep

No sleep means no energy, and no energy means a weakened immune system, which in turn breeds blemishes.

The fix? Put that phone away from your bedside, and try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.

#7. Thick/Bad Foundation

Thick foundations can cause clogged pores, which can breed bacteria and result in acne.
