Can Your Skin Get Used to Beauty Products?

Can your skin get used to the Beauty Products you are using? Certainly, this is a question you have heard many times, and the answer is: No, this is a myth. Your skin doesn’t really ‘get used to’ your skincare products. We know that might not be the answer you were looking for; but at least now you don’t have to buy an entirely new routine.

Some reasons why your Beauty Products are not as effective as before

Beauty Products

  1. You don’t close your product correctly; as some of the active ingredients are degraded when in contact with air, light, or humidity.
  2. Your product already performed their function; so you might not be able to see any other changes like at the beginning. Your skin has different needs overtime. Things like weather, pollution, hormones, and contamination can take a toll on your skin.
  3. You are using products containing silicone, and not removing them correctly can interfere with other products penetration.
  4. You skip your exfoliation for some time causing a build-up of dead cells that is not allowing your product to penetrate as it should.

In conclusion, your skin can develop tolerance to some ingredients; for example, when you start using retinoids, it is possible that at first, you experience some irritation, but eventually, this will disappear allowing you to try higher concentrations. Also, as it was previously mentioned, your product is only designed to work on specific concerns, and as your skin ages, more signs of aging are shown, and your primary product cannot improve all of them at the same time. It is recommended to check your skincare routine products at least once per year to determine if your current products will cover all your needs; also, checking the expiration date each month is crucial.
