First of all, what is oily skin? Open pores and shiny skin are synonyms of oily skin; oily skin is not the only cause behind the acne however, the chances of developing acne are higher in oily skin.
Taking care of oily skin can be tricky on occasions; hence here are some basic recommendations to take care of oily skin:
- Cleaning products: Cleaning is a key step of the skincare routine, and the products chosen make a huge difference in the way the skin looks. For oily skin, always choose cleansers recommended for oily or mixed skin. These products can regulate the sebum production and go deeper for a better cleanse. Most of them contain Salicylic Acid.
- Type of products: Always read the label and look for the words: non-comedogenic. This means these products are oil-free and won’t increase your skin’s oil production. You can choose gels, serums, or light creams; avoid by all means thick products.
- Moisturizers: Choose lightweight creams with hyaluronic acid or glycolic acid. Some people choose to skip the moisturizer because of the fear that it will make the skin oilier, but ignoring the moisturizer is not an option and should always be applied; it doesn’t matter your skin type.
- Exfoliation: For oily skin without any active acne lesion, you can exfoliate up to three times per week, but always make sure your skin can tolerate it. Choose products with glycolic and salicylic acid.
