I know that most of us like to keep our makeup and skincare as long as we can, because they’re quite expensive.
But then again, it has an expiry date for a reason.
So, why should we follow the expiry date?
Well, the most obvious reason is the efficacy of the product.
If we’re talking about make-up, it can eventually end up sitting on top of your skin rather than blending in. It can also turn out to be a little bit chalkier.
As far the skincare is concerned, the absorption of the product can be reduced as well as, the efficacy of the ingredients in it. So, the benefits you used to gain from it might not be as rewarding as they used to be.
Other than these, bacteria can be growing in them. Not only because you introduce germs while using it but also because the antimicrobial ingredients in them also have an expiry date.
Aside from the expiry date provided, how else can you tell?
✔ Color
If it looks like the color has changed, there’s a big possibility that it has oxidized. Meaning, it’s not working at its best anymore.
✔ Smell
Once it starts smelling funny, it’s time to toss it away. It means that there is something living in it already.
✔ Consistency
If the consistency has changed, then it means the product can’t hold it altogether anymore.
