Everyone says that we should stay away from stress because it can trigger reactions in our body causing all sorts of skin problems.
How?
Well, when we are stressed, our body can easily trigger inflammatory factors.
Inflammation is supposed to be harmless for it is our body’s natural defense mechanism to a threat. It helps us defend ourselves from viruses and the like.
However, sometimes our body creates too much inflammation that is not necessary such as in the case of allergies and stress. Meaning, even if there’s no real harm, your body still prepares for battle.
This is why you might notice a sudden change in response to your favorite moisturizer when you are stressed– what used to be pleasant to your skin can suddenly make your skin so angry.
What can you expect?
It becomes harder to control when you have a history of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea where flare-ups can easily be triggered.
Other than these, acne, itchy and flaky scalp (seborrheic dermatitis), and hair fall (telogen effluvium) can also be expected.
What can you do?
Aside from managing the symptoms with prescription medicines or as advised by your physician, it is best to practice ways on how to prevent stress from triggering flare-ups.
This can be done by taking a walk, doing deep breathing exercises, and meditation when negative emotions arise.
