Skin purging is an increased rate of skin cell turnover. It is usually caused by a product or process, which results in tiny open or closed comedones. Such products can be AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, retinoids, chemical peels, etc. Procedures like laser treatment can also make the skin purge.

It is well known in clinical settings. But commonly, it is called inflammatory acne or lesions. But it is different from acne in such a way that lesions in skin purging clear up at a much faster rate. It can last up to 4-6 weeks. But commonly, it lasts around 2 weeks. After the skin purges, you will observe healthier and clearer skin.
Skin purging usually happens when the skin’s barrier is compromised because of any product or process. So if you observe that your skin has started purging, try using products- such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid- to help the barrier repair itself.
During skin purging, avoid popping those lesions. It would be best not to use harsh chemicals on your skin. Also, avoid extended sun exposure.
