IPL or Intense Pulsed Light is a kind of laser that makes use of broad-spectrum light that is distributed to the different layers of the skin. It is used for all sorts of discoloration such as sunspots, age spots, Rosacea, and acne marks.
What happens is the light is absorbed by the veins in the form of heat. This heat collapses the vessels, which causes the blood pigments to coagulate. These coagulated blood pigments are then absorbed by the body and are eventually excreted.
Who are the perfect candidates for this treatment?
Those with really thin spider veins are good candidates.
Usually, IPL is done as a secondary or additional treatment to sclerotherapy. Veins that are too small to inject are sometimes difficult to remove with sclerotherapy. So these veins that are left behind are the ones targeted by IPL.
