Cracked heels can be a cosmetic concern for some, but it can be a very discomforting and painful experience for others. So even if your cracked heels are not very seriously injured, take care of them to prevent discomfort. Following are some of the tips for you:
Apply heel balm:
A heel balm is readily available as an OTC product. It usually contains all the required ingredients to moisturize and soften the dead skin, such as urea, salicylic acid, saccharide isomerate, etc. It is better to apply it in the morning before starting your day.
Apply a thick moisturizer:
Every night apply a thick moisturizer on your feet before going to sleep, with particular attention to your heels so that your heels get proper moisturizer and nutrition during the sleeping hours.
Soak and exfoliate:
It helps to get rid of the thick dead skin layer and helps improve the absorption of moisturizers. For doing that:
- Soak your feet in soapy water for 15-20 minutes.
- Use a loofah or foot scrubber to remove dead skin. Don’t scrub while your heels are dry, as it will cause more damage.
- Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
If your heels are seriously damaged, it is better to consult a physician before opting for home remedies.
