These days, creating a hype in the skin care world is no easy feat. But when an entirely new ingredient comes about and promises to deliver glowing, bright skin, well – it’s got our attention.

We’re talking about emu apple, and to be honest, we haven’t been this excited over a skin care ingredient since retinol. Sourced from the Australian outback, emu apple offers an exciting range of skin brightening benefits to the skin, so it’s no wonder it’s already taking the beauty world by storm.

Never heard of it? We spoke to cosmetic chemist and founder of Mukti Organics, Mukti, and founder of cult Aussie brand Sand & Sky, Sarah Hamilton, about emu apple – the buzziest ingredient on the skin care block.

What is emu apple?

“Emu apple (kunzea pomifera) native extract, also known as muntries or native cranberries, are delicious red tinged green or purple berries that grow along the southern coast of Australia,” says Mukti.

High in antioxidants and natural waxes, emu apple is known for its ability to protect and nourish the skin. “Australian emu apple is found deep in the Aussie bush, and it’s a special botanical fruit that’s bursting with nourishing properties,” says Hamilton. “It’s packed full of vitamin C and antioxidants – in fact, more antioxidants than most superfoods, for example, three times more than blueberries, making it one of the highest concentrated ingredients in the world.
