Makeup remover wipes. Yes or no?

Makeup remover wipes are disposables tissues made of cotton, polypropylene, or polyester. They contain substances able to remove your makeup and clean your face from dirt that accumulated during the day. What makes Makeup remover wipes different is that it is widely used. After all, you can carry them around in your purse and use them when you get tired. But still, they are not beneficial for the skin or environment because the material used is not easily degradable.

Cons of Makeup remover wipes

  • doesn’t always remove waterproof makeup (eyeliner and mascara)
  • doesn’t completely remove your face makeup
  • can cause wrinkles from rubbing at your eyes
  • will dry out if package is left open

Some people choose to have them instead of cleaning products because of the cost; it is easier and cheaper to buy the wipes instead of using 2 or 3 different products that occupy more space and money.

These wipes cannot remove the makeup 100%; they remove the visible layer but don’t produce a deep cleansing; hence, your pores can clog quickly and produce pimples. Most of them contain alcohol, fragrance, and preservatives that can alter the skin’s pH and make it dryer or even irritating. It is also essential to never use them around the eyes; this is the most sensitive area on your skin. Normal skin can tolerate the wipes, but sensitive skin or conditions like acne or rosacea, dermatitis need to avoid these; instead, use micellar water and remove with a cotton pad.

If you plan to use them for just a couple of days of the week, you will be just fine; make sure you do not replace your cleanser with makeup wipes; you can use them to complement your routine or in emergency cases but never as your main cleanser. After using them, apply toner and continue with your daily skin routine.  Not all of them have the wrong ingredients; make sure you can read in the package the words “alcohol-free” before considering them.
