You must have heard of people taking collagen in their pre or post-workout drinks. But lately, these supplements are also gaining popularity because of their skincare benefits. So let’s discuss if it is worth taking or not.

Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in our body. It has several vital functions in our body. But right now, we are focusing on the skincare function. Its importance for our skin is undeniable. That’s why you might often find it in topical products. But it is said it is more beneficial when orally consumed.  

Is It Worth Taking Collagen Supplements for Skin Benefits?

A study reported that those women who consumed 2.5-5g of collagen daily for 8 weeks, their skin elasticity improved, and wrinkles decreased. In addition, they faced less skin dryness as compared to those who didn’t take collagen supplements. Collagen supplements are also said to stimulate the production of other proteins that have an essential role in skin structure, e.g. elastin and fibrillin. It is also observed to strengthen nails and hair. It treats brittle nails and increases their growth.  

Is It Worth Taking Collagen Supplements for Skin Benefits?

It is safe to say that collagen supplements are quite beneficial for skincare. There are no risks associated with its usage. But it’s better to consult for the daily dose with a GP. In addition, the source of collagen varies, so you must check the label as it can contain allergens, e.g. eggs.
