Genetically male skin is different from women’s, and one of the most obvious differences is the thickness and hair quantity; these two differences make men’s skin stronger and more resistant to the aging signs; however, it doesn’t mean they don’t need to follow a skincare routine of male skin.
Cleanser, toner, moisturizer should also be used in both genders, with just a few variations in between. Here we will go through the basic steps to take care of the male skin.
- Wash your face daily: Cleansing is the basic step for every person, and the reason is that we are constantly exposed to pollution, dirt, bacteria, fungus, free radicals, and other substances that can harm the skin. It is more likely that men’s skin is oily than women’s; hence, excess oil can clog the pores and cause acne. When choosing your cleanser, go for one, especially for your skin type.
- Don’t forget about sunscreen: This not only will protect you against sunburn but also reduce the chances of skin cancer and pigmentation. Choose an SPF 30 or over for daily activities and reapply every couple of hours during outdoor activities.
- Use hot water before shaving: You should do this before applying your shaving product or shave after a warm shower.
- Exfoliate the skin: Exfoliation is a must and must be done once or twice each week; if you chose to do it more than this, the chances of redness and irritation are higher. With the exfoliation, you will be able to remove the dead skin cells, and also, you will make the area around the hair follicles softer, making this way shaving easier.
- Apply a daily moisturizer: If you plan to get softer and nicer skin, you should apply a daily moisturizer; by skipping this step, you will notice how your pores will remain open, and your skin will lose elasticity and become dryer. Choose a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid for the day and go for a thicker and nourishing treatment for the evening.
