While these do help, in reality, healthy hair is a byproduct of your lifestyle and general health, with nutrition being a major contributing factor!

1) Protein

Protein is the building block of healthy hair. Hair itself is made up of a protein called keratin, and your tends to be stripped of it with everyday styling, pollution and stress. No two ways about this, you’ve got to increase the protein levels in your diet, to make sure your hair’s getting its share of TLC. Why is protein so important? Because it is literally vital to hold together every strand of hair! So if you’re getting inadequate amounts of this in your diet, chances are you’ll be suffering from weak, brittle and limp hair.

2) Omega 3 fatty acids

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential to keep your scalp and hair follicles from drying out, reducing inflammation (which is a major cause of hair shedding) and promoting hair growth. Male pattern balding and hair loss in women are often associated with insulin resistance, which in turn is a byproduct of Omega 3 deficiencies. So what foods should you eat to make sure this doesn’t happen? Try salmon – it is one of the best sources.

3) Vitamins

Vitamins are the lifeline of your body’s nutrition, and also your hair’s. Vitamin C needs to be consumed to reduce free radicals and maintain collagen levels in the hair follicles, to make sure hair remains breakage-free. It is also an antioxidant and protects cells found in the scalp. Eat a generous helping of fruits like guavas, strawberries, kiwis and oranges.

4) Zinc and selenium

Zinc and selenium are two ignored, but extremely essential nutrients to hair health. These minerals accelerate hair growth, and also make sure that scalp health is maintained. Zinc is vital to balancing your hormones, and for RNA and DNA production, which in turn affects hair texture and thickness.
