When the season changes, so do our skin care needs. We talked to Heidi Nicol, an aesthetician with Renown Dermatology, Laser & Skin Care, to find the best way to treat your skin to some TLC during the transition into fall.
After a long, hot summer, we often see show dryness, breakouts and lackluster skin. A few minor adjustments to your skin care routine can help ease this transition.
Switch Out Your Cleanser
This may be a good time for you to switch to a non-drying cleanser. What was good for the summer months may be too much for this time of year. Nicol recommends a looking for a “gentle” cleanser that will tackle your skin’s cleansing and/or exfoliating needs without harsh ingredients.
Hydrate Your Skin
As the weather gets cooler, a thicker moisturizer may be necessary. Look for a moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid, which will triple your skin’s water-retaining capacity. This will help keep your skin hydrated all day.
Add Retinol
If you’re not already using retinol regularly, now is a good time to add it to your routine. Retinol helps dramatically reduce brown spots and fine lines that are caused by summer sun.
Don’t Drop the SPF
Keep using sunscreen during the fall and winter seasons. While some may think they only need sunscreen during the summer, UVA and UVB light can still harm your skin year-round. Dermatologists agree that everyone should use broadband sunscreen on a daily basis.
Smooth it Out
Fall is a great time to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells. In addition to exfoliating products you can purchase, consider a dermaplane or skin peel for that extra skin help. Contact Renown Dermatology, Laser & Skin Care for a complimentary skin consultation to determine the perfect treatment for you.
