Adaptogens are well-known herbs for relieving several body issues. However, they are being referred to in the skincare industry lately. Let’s find out if these herbs are any good for your skin or not.

Adaptogens have their history in the mid-20th century when they were found to relieve stress conditions. But they are commonly used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines. However, research says that these adaptogens do not push the body. Instead, they are non-toxic, regulate natural processes and have long-lasting effects.
Particularly for skin, adaptogens are known to slow down the aging process by preventing damage by free radicals. They fight against any type of stress that skin encounters, whether physical or pathogenic and reduce the inflammation. They are antibacterial too in their activity, making them ideal for skin protection. They are said to have estrogen-like benefits for skin to give youthful, plump skin.
Some of the common examples of adaptogens are aloe vera, ginseng, licorice, etc. These ingredients are commonly found in several of our skincare products. You can opt for their toners, topical creams, gels, etc. But make sure not to take them orally as the FDA has not approved their oral use for skincare benefits.
