Why Is Ph Balance Important in Skincare?

Have you ever noticed that you bought a skincare product but instead of soothing your skin, it aggravated the condition? This can happen when your product does not match your natural pH. Let’s find out what pH balance is and why it is important.

Why Is Ph Balance Important in Skincare?

Our skin has a natural pH, which lies slightly towards the acidic end. Whenever this balance is disturbed, it affects our skin’s health. These conditions can be dry, flaky skin or irritation and redness. Most commonly, it is affected by UV radiations, moisture, or our beloved skincare products. To support this pH balance, we should only put the products that match the skin’s natural pH.

Why Is Ph Balance Important in Skincare?

  • If you put on high pH products, initially, your skin might feel soft and smooth, but it will be dry in the long run. Because its pH balance will be altered.
  • If you put low pH products on your skin, they will increase the cell turnover, making it bright. However, too low a pH can damage the skin by leaving it irritated, dry and flaky.

For an ideal pH balancing product, pH should be between 4.5 to 7. In fact, if it is inclined towards acidic, it will be better. The market is loaded with products with pH mentioned on their labels.
