Why Your Face Looks Puffy in the Morning?

Do you also experience mild swelling or puffiness on your face when you wake up in the morning? Let’s discuss the possible causes and treatment of facial puffiness.

Mild puffiness in the face is a normal swelling as long as there is no underlying disease causing it. It usually is due to fluid retention because of the overnight sleep. Your sleeping position is also an important factor in causing it. Lying down makes your body fluid collect in the face. But it is more evident when you are under-sleep or oversleep.

Certain foods can also trigger this and make your face look puffy. Foods high in sodium or salt, processed meat, alcohol, or fast foods are responsible for retaining water in your body. This water will accumulate on your face while you are lying down for a long duration of time. Any disease like sinus infection, or allergy, can also make your face look puffy.

Cold compress, cold water, or facial exercises like jade rollers are observed to decrease the facial puffiness. If your face looks puffy all day around and this swelling is persistent, you should seek medical help to understand the underlying cause.
