Our skin tends to suffer some changes that should be addressed right away to avoid further damage during cold weather.
Things like a cold and strong wind, drastic changes of temperature, and heaters take a toll on our skin; hence we should adapt our routine to avoid this.
Each skin type and lifestyle is different, so the signs of damage can vary from one person to another, but in general, these signs are the same.
If you suffer from a specific pathology, you can add symptoms like redness, pain, or sensitivity.
A lot of things can happen, but we will go through the most important and manageable:
- Premature skin aging: With environmental stress, your skin can suffer from inflammation and damage from free radicals; therefore, always add antioxidants to your daily skin routine.
- Dehydration: Cold weather cause alteration on your skin barrier, specifically on your epidermis; this is why you will notice your expressions line may look deeper. The best way to fight this is by using a hydrating moisturizer during the day and a nourishing cream during the night.
- Eye contour alterations: The skin surrounding the eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive, especially in environmental changes.
- Chapped lips: Lips become dry and can be chapped. Avoid moistening them with saliva orbiting them and only use lip balms, lipsticks, or even Vaseline to protect them.
- Lack of shine: With cold weather, vasoconstriction is found on our skin, which reduces the oxygen and nutrient circulation; therefore, a good serum application with soft massages with circular movements is recommended to increase the circulation on the area.
- Flaky skin: This is one of the most common concerns of people during winter, and the reason this happens is that your skin’s renewal becomes slower; hence your skins will become rough and probably will suffer from desquamation.
Dryness: This is not the same as dehydration; the loss of a critical amount of lipids because sebum glands work slowly during this time, making the epidermis weaker.
Oils are usually recommended to improve dryness during this time of the year.
