What is Blue Light and How Does it Harm Our Skin?

Because of the major shift to a work-from-home setup, most of us spend a lot of time in front of the computer not realizing its impact on our eyes and skin. blue light

So what is blue light?

Blue light is a high-energy short-wavelength light that is visible to the human eye, which is why it is also called High Energy Visible light.

It is emitted by television screens, computer monitors, cellphones, and other digital devices.

So how does this concern us?

Apart from it damaging our eyes when exposed for long periods, blue light can trigger dark spots and speed up aging.

Its effect on the skin might not be seen overnight. But like UV rays, it is slowly accumulating without us even noticing.

So what can we do?

If we have to keep our eyes safe by wearing glasses with blue light protection, so does our skin by wearing sunblock.

Sunblock should be your skincare best friend because it is always easier to protect your skin than to treat an existing skin problem.

Other than this, look for skincare that contains antioxidants and ingredients that can help strengthen the integrity of your skin. Some examples are:

  • Niacinamide
  • Vitamin C
  • Pomegranate
  • Vitamin E
  • Green tea extract
  • Lipochroman
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Grape seed extract

These ingredients can help reverse or lessen the damage done by blue light.
