Stretch marks in pregnancy:

Stretch marks are most frequently seen in women during pregnancy. In fact, it’s predicted that between 50 and 90 percent of expectant women will get stretch marks before giving birth. So, do stretch marks from pregnancy vary from those that normal individuals get?

According to some experts, pregnant hormones may increase your risk of developing stretch marks. The hormones may increase the amount of water in the skin, causing it to relax and become more delicate when stretched.

Treatment:

Preventing stretch marks may be difficult, but there are many treatments that may lessen their appearance.

Retinoid cream:

Applying retinoids may make your skin seem better, especially if your stretch marks are still quite new. The lotion improves the appearance of your skin’s collagen and makes the markings less noticeable. If you are pregnant or nursing, talk to your doctor about this medication. Most doctors believe that topical retinoids should not be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding since their risk-benefit ratio remains questionable.

Laser therapy:

Laser therapy is another option for reducing stretch marks. The lasers can help stimulate collagen or elastin in your skin to grow. There are various types of laser therapy, and your doctor can help you choose the kind that is right for you.

Glycolic acid:

Glycolic acid creams and chemical peels are other treatments for stretch marks.

They work to help lessen the appearance of current stretch marks, but they do not keep new ones from forming.
