Over Exfoliation of the Skin: How Can You Tell and Treat?

Just like what the Spice Girls would say, ”too much of something is bad enough…”Acids and retinol are great. There’s no doubt about that, but if applied too frequently, your skin can also suffer. Exfoliation

So how do you know if it’s too much?

  • If you are having breakouts instead of just a temporary purge

If you are having pimples in areas that don’t normally get acne, it could be a breakout. Another sign is if it’s been going on for a couple of months and won’t stop.

  • If redness and itchiness won’t go away.

This means that your skin is constantly irritated by something. And if you have been using acids and retinoids too frequently, it would be smart to pause for a while.

  • If you are suddenly sensitive to other skincare products.

If you have noticed that your skin would sting, itch, or turn red right after applying other skincare products, this might mean that your skin barrier has been compromised.

What can you do?

Stop everything and go for a gentle cleanser and moisturizer that contains ceramide, collagen, urea, aquaporin, plant butter.

Your goal is to repair your skin, which you can achieve by applying emollients to bring back the normal integrity of your skin. Exfoliation

Once your skin gets better, you can slowly use them again (once weekly) but now with more caution. Exfoliation
