The technique used for this treatment involves a cluster of 9-12 pressurized needles that rapidly puncture the skin in various places at various depths to induce the self-healing mode of skin.

Technique:

For a procedure that is relatively easy to perform and derive results from, there are several factors that need to be kept in mind regarding equipment and technique. As mentioned earlier, it involves puncturing the skin using needles moving at high speeds and penetrating the epidermal layer till a certain depth.

The first step towards successful implementation of this procedure is to apply a topical numbing cream on the area that needs to be treated. Once the skin is numbed, it is advised to use a setting of 0.8 mm on the needle, which goes deep enough to generate a pinkish inflammation without overwhelming the skin or drawing blood. This setting must be changed when going over areas that are more sensitive or that have relatively thinner skin, such as near the eyes, on the forehead and around the lips.

Treatment of open pores on the face such as those on the sides of the nose is better performed when each pore is needled individually. Depending on the intensity of treatment required, the needle settings must be changed. Therefore, for self-treatment, specially designed home skin needling models with short, fine needles of approximately 0.2mm depth are available and can be used around 2-3 times in a week to reduce pores on face, oil production, fine lines, and to enhance delivery and effectiveness of topical agents.
