Karanja Oil: Benefits For Skin And Hair

Hyaluronic acid, tea tree oil, and rose water are a few substances whose advantages are well known. Others, like karanja oil, are likely to go overlooked.

We’re here to discuss the advantages of adding karanja oil into your beauty regimen.

What is karanja oil?

Karanja oil is cold-pressed oil from the seeds of the Pongam tree, which grows in India and other places in South Asia. It’s an extremely resilient and weather-resistant shrub that’s able to grow in both highly wet and dry conditions, and under the blaze of extreme heat and wind.

Beyond the tree that it comes from, the oil itself is incredibly nourishing and protective.

It’s very rich in flavonoids, which are known for their antioxidant and UV-blocking abilities, noting that, as a result, this oil offers protection for both the skin and hair.

Benefits of karanja oil for skin and hair:

One of the main benefits as a strong anti-inflammatory product makes it perfect to be used in the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema, but there are other benefits such as:

  • Antibacterial and antifungal.
  • Soothes irritation.
  • Shields skin against UV damage.
  • Protects the scalp.
  • Prevents hair color fade.

While no safety side effects exist with karanja oil, the pure ingredient can sometimes be too heavy for fine hair and/or oily skin. Instead, it is recommended to use products formulated with the ingredient, rather than pure karanja oil on its own.

Given the advantages of karanja oil for both skin and hair, we believe that it’s only a matter of time before the oil emerges as the newest favorite in the cosmetic industry.
