All You Need To Know About Blackheads

Blackheads are a type of acne (acne vulgaris). They’re open bumps on the skin that fill with excessive oil and dead skin. They look as if dirt is in the bump, but an irregular light reflection of clogged follicles actually causes the dark spots. Blackheads aren’t pimples.

What causes blackheads?

Popping blackheads form when a clog or plug develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. Each follicle contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil. This oil, called sebum, helps keep your skin soft. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to the skin follicle, producing bumps. If the skin over the bump stays closed, the bump is called a whitehead. When the skin over the bump opens, exposure to the air causes it to look black and a blackhead forms.

How do you remove blackheads?

Here are 7 remedies plus prevention tips that will help keep blackheads away.

  • Wash your face twice a day and after exercising.
  • Try pore strips.
  • Use oil-free sunscreen.
  • Exfoliate.
  • Smooth on a clay mask.
  • Check out charcoal masks.
  • Try topical retinoids.

Do blackheads go away naturally?

It can sometimes go away on their own. It depends on how deep blackheads are in your skin. If a blackhead is close to the surface of your skin, it’s more likely to go away on its own. However, some blackheads can be deeply embedded in your skin.

What happens if you don’t remove blackheads?

Complications result in blackhead extraction. If pores are infected, the skin can become inflamed and cause acne, which is the inflammation that results from clogged pores. The pores can also become inflamed if the blackhead isn’t treated.

What is the best home remedy for blackheads?

  • Coconut oil, jojoba oil, sugar scrub.
  • Use baking soda and water.
  • Oatmeal scrub: Make a scrub with plain yogurt, half lemon juice, 1 tbsp oatmeal.
  • Milk, honey- cotton strip.
